That is a lot of money, but that fact is believable to me for these reasons. First, there seems to be many of these kinds of books published. You cannot turn on the TV today without seeing a commercial about a new dieting technique. I know TV isn't the same as books, but many of the programs on TV have books associated with them. Why do I think there are so many? I think it is because the authors know that people will buy them, so they meet the high demand with more supply. There is a high demand for this genre of book because our society is obese, because it is human nature to be self-critical about our physical appearance and life habits, and because of the high weight our society puts on being impossibly thin/muscular and beautiful/handsome. An obese society, plus humans being self-critical and the importance society places on appearance adds up to the explanation of why so many self-help/dieting books are sold today.
